FE2: Read Again- Edition of 3
Description
Available now — Exhibiting at Into the Fold, 9th May 2026. Exhibition details via Journal.
Read Again is part of the FE2 series, a body of work centred on reclaiming pain and restoring healing. The piece examines how Black women's features have been isolated, exaggerated, and misread. Facial elements are deliberately fragmented and reassembled against a deep black background, disrupting immediate recognition and encouraging viewers to reconsider what they think they see.
The image is meticulously constructed using square mosaic blocks, carefully crafted to build the final composition. Each block functions as a unit of perception — abstract alone, yet collectively forming identity. This structured method reflects my background in interior architecture, where spatial composition and modular construction inform how elements are assembled into a cohesive whole.
The black background removes context, directing attention to features long scrutinised and reframing them as sites of strength and beauty.
